When it comes to taking care of our health, it goes without saying that our diets play a key role in determining just how healthy, or unhealthy a person actually is. One diet however, which is certainly every bit as beneficial and effective as it claims to be, is the gluten-free diet, which we’ll look at now.

What is a gluten-free diet?
A gluten-free diet is a diet which contains no gluten, there, that was easy wasn’t it. Oh, you want a little more info? No problem. A gluten-free diet is designed specifically to help people suffering from wheat allergies and intolerances, including celiac. Gluten is actually a protein which is commonly found in a variety of different grains including wheat and rye. As well as being extremely beneficial for people suffering with wheat intolerances and allergies, a gluten-free diet also possesses a number of other benefits for everyday people too.

Gluten-free diets can help with digestion:
If you happen to suffer with digestive problems, including stomach bloat, gas, and indigestion, then cutting gluten out of your diet is extremely beneficial indeed, and could help to actually solve your problems altogether. Consuming gluten, results in your small intestine becoming inflamed and swollen, as well as the small villi inside the intestines becoming swollen as well. These villi are responsible for nutrients being absorbed by your body, and the bigger and more swollen they become, the less efficient they become, which could eventually result in malnutrition.

Gluten-free diets are great for headaches and for reducing inflammation:
Headaches and sore and stiff joints and muscles are often caused by inflammation of the soft tissues inside of our bodies, which is why painkillers and anti-inflammatory pills such as Ibuprofen can help to relieve these pains. As gluten is often responsible for inflammation in the body, many people with gluten intolerances often find themselves with headaches and sore joints. Cutting out gluten could help to fix, or greatly reduce each one of these problems.

You’ll have more energy:
We get our energy from the nutrients contained within the food we eat, but as stated previously, gluten can sometimes result in malnutrition, meaning we don’t get the essential nutrients that we need on a daily basis. Gluten-free diets can help solve this, meaning that you’ll have more energy levels than ever before, all by cutting gluten out of your diets.

    I actually never really knew what gluten was until now. I’m definitely going to try this. I’ve always just watched my calories but never really paid attention to things such as gluten and carbs. I find it very interesting how gluten can cause headaches because I get them all the time. Maybe this can help!

    My friend switched to gluten-free a few years ago and she has felt so much better. She looks better too, more energized, less sluggish and her skin looks great too.
